Know your graduates and soon to be SSAFI alumnae members! That’s what we aimed to do as led by the Membership Committee of 2022. It had become a policy to meet our new alumnae members only when they turn Silver (25 years from HS) and host the Homecoming Program in conjunction with SSAFI. We felt the need to touch base with our members much sooner, to get to know them better and specifically, to serve them better by first finding out what their needs and interests were.
There were four (4) Meet and Greets of SSAFI with the graduating batches of GS (Gr.6), Junior HS (Gr. 10), Senior HS (Gr. 12), and College (varied degree programs). The activities were arranged with the cooperation of teachers and administrators and modified to appeal to the different age levels. The Grade 6 responded most, with wild applause, when their teachers, GS alumnae, performed a GALS-era cheer that used to raise goosebumps when performed live. The Junior HS (Gr. 10) took filling in the blanks of the College Hymn to a new level of energy as they rushed the mike to shout out the words amidst a roar of laughter. The Senior HS (Gr. 12), spoke out about why they were proud and thankful to be Scholasticans and how they wanted to make their alma mater proud of them some day. They were articulate, confident, and passionate ~ with so many volunteering to voice their opinions. Of all the graduates, it was the College who were more subdued and conservative in their opinions, but there were a few, still kalog, who reminded us that humor is still the best motivator. One even did the Miss Universe walk ala Gloria Diaz, modelling the SSAFI Daughters Blue, Daughters True varsity jacket!
For SSAFI members present, it was an eye-opener about the Scholastican today and how important it is for young girls and women to continue to receive the kind of well-rounded, inspiring education one can only get from St. Scholastica.
