HOMECOMING 2023 – the First Post-Pandemic LIVE at St. Cecilia’s Hall

By Jenny de los Reyes (GS 1974, HS 1978)

SABIK – impatiently eager or excited. That’s the only word that can contain the feeling of that Homecoming Night on July 9, 2023, that was the occasion of the first LIVE homecoming celebration since the pandemic. Every greeting, every dance, song, video presentation painstakingly created by the jubilarian batches was met with applause, cheers of encouragement, and complete outright joy. It was as if Scholasticans were finally able to burst out of their long-held physical, mental, and emotional shackles. And with that energy came an outpouring of love for the school, the sisters, teachers, and one another ~ that we had survived and that we had survived well.

A special highlight was the dance number of the sisters to the music of the Korean Girl Group, Blackpink. It started off with an innocuous number from SisterAct 2 but soon blossomed into an energetic dance number. The audience jumped up from their seats and applauded, shouting and singing with the sisters. A video of their number even went viral and the general reaction was ~ iba talaga ang Scholastican nuns (in more ways than one).

HS 1993’s Pearl number was unique from concept to execution. The music was their typing teacher’s playlist during their sessions ~ which they danced to so creatively. At the end of the number, they brought their teacher who was in the audience up the stage to great applause. Teachers were invited to the show and sponsored by Silver HS 1998 ~ which was a unique treat that should be encouraged!

There were two (2) Sapphire groups: HS 1978 and COL 1978 ~ who have since 2003 been committed to joining the every 5 year stage presentations. Mary Grace Dimacali (COL 78, of Mary Grace ensaimada fame) and Cielo Perfecto (HS 78) are sisters that represent a very talented family of Scholasticans that do us proud!

Ruby HS 1983 – taught us boomers what TikTok really is best for ~ to dance-dance-dance! Coral HS 88 were precise and enjoyable to watch in their jazzy number. Emerald HS 68 was represented by the always engaging, laugh-producing talented singer, Mitch Valdez.

Diamond (HS 63) & Platinum (HS 53) – showed us just how much being a Scholastican nurturer can continue to produce the finest women and the finest sons as well!

Homecomings bring Scholasticans together – to have the greatest FUN and to remember what makes us a great school! We always strive to excel in all we do, that in all things God may be glorified!
